FIELD OF FLOWERS PONCHETTE KIT - Dyed to Order

This kit includes the pattern and yarn for my Field of Flowers Ponchette. You can choose from a number of colorway combinations and five different yarn bases.

• A skein of assigned pooling yarn in the fingering-weight base of your choice
• A skein of a matching semi-solid colorway in the same fingering-weight base

I'll be dyeing the yarn just for you, so please allow 2-3 weeks for me to do so.

The Pattern
This ponchette looks equally fabulous with an evening gown or jeans and a t-shirt! Like the Angel Wings Ponchette, it has an elegant Picot bind-off and a unique diamond shape with “wings” that flow ethereally behind your arms. Like the Field of Flowers shawl, it uses the aster stitch for assigned pooling. It also has some fun stitch combinations that add great texture to the top and lace to the bottom edge.

Yarn

• C1 - At least 400 yards of a fingering-weight semi-solid colorway. It looks best when this colorway matches the accent color of C2.
• C2 – At least 400 yards of a fingering-weight colorway dyed for assigned pooling.

For the sample, I used 324 yards of Purple Lamb’s Lilac on Sock Perfection for C1 and 387 yards of Wisteria on Sock Perfection for C2.

While I used Sock Perfection, any of my fingering-weight yarn bases would work well.

Needles and Notions

• US Size 5 / 3.75 mm circular needles that are between 16 and 24 inches in length
• US Size 5 / 3.75 mm circular needles that are 40 to 50 inches in length
• 2 stitch markers that are different from one another
• A tapestry needle to weave in your ends
• A scale that measures in grams and a ruler or tape measure
• Blocking mats and about 150 blocking pins

Assigned Pooling
You’ll need yarn dyed for assigned pooling for this pattern. About three-quarters of the hank (loop of yarn) is dyed in one color, which is known as the main color. The other quarter of the hank is dyed in a contrasting color, which is known as the accent color. When you get to the accent color, you do a different stitch as specified in the pattern to showcase the accent color. In the case of this pattern, you’ll be making aster flowers whenever you get to the accent color in your working yarn.

Gauge
Gauge is not really important here. Just aim for a fabric that is almost solid without being rigid. That said, after blocking, my gauge was 8 stitches and 9 rows per inch.

Size
Before blocking, the finished length from top to bottom along the front middle was 14 inches. After blocking it was 17 inches. Before blocking, the finished length along the increases on the side was 22 inches. After blocking, it was 32 inches. This size fits most, but you can make it larger or smaller by adding or subtracting rows of C2. Keep in mind that you may need a second skein of your C2 colorway if you decide to make the ponchette considerably larger.

M1L - Insert the left-hand needle from back to front, under the bar between the stitches and place it on your left-hand needle. Then knit that bar through the front loop.

PM1 – Place marker #1
PM2 – Place marker #2
SM1 – Slip marker #1
SM2 – Slip marker #2
YO – Yarn over

A Note on the Instructions
Some knitters prefer to knit a certain number of rows while others prefer to knit a certain number of inches. I’ve offered both options in the instructions wherever possible so you can choose to follow whichever one you prefer.
