This yarn was inspired by and named for a really intriguing phrase from Homer's Odyssey. Apparently the ancient Greeks had no name or concept for the color blue. While pondering the idea for this colorway, a friend mentioned that on a recent trip to Greece, she noticed burgundy hues in the sea while aboard a sailboat.

The colorway is a very dark red with purple tones as well.

I dyed it on Sock Perfection, which is perfect for everything from socks to shawls to sweaters and beyond. It's made of extra-soft superwash merino and nylon.

The Winedark Sea would look great with Beowulf, Autumn Leaves, Afremov's Farewell to Anger, or Impressions of Autumn.

YARN SWATCH
I included a hat I knit up using this colorway on Wonderful Worsted. It should give you an idea of how the colorway will work up, but keep in mind that how it looks will vary a lot depending on the pattern, the yarn base, and even the individual skein.
