School of Athens was inspired by the famous Renaissance painting by Raphael. The painting shows the great philosophers of ancient Greece dialoguing together. I included a photo of the painting as well. I dyed this yarn using my Splashed and Speckled method, which means each skein has the same colors but with different placement.
I dyed it on my Buttery Soft DK base, which is made of 45% baby alpaca, 45% extra-soft 19.5 micron merino, and 10% silk, and it really lives up to its name!
Like most, this colorway is a little more muted on Buttery Soft DK than on many of my other yarn bases due to the alpaca and silk content.
Please note that this is NOT a superwash yarn. That means it can felt with agitation and changes in temperature, so it should be washed by hand in cool water. On the other hand, it can be fulled.
School of Athens by Raphael on Buttery Soft DK
245 yards / 3.5 oz / 2 plies
45% baby alpaca / 45% extra-fine merino / 10% silk
Care: Hand wash in cold water and air dry
School of Athens would look great with Annunciation Blue, Lilac, Marigold, and Rosy-Fingered Dawn.
I have included a photo of a hat I knit using School of Athens on this same base.
