PENELOPE on So Silky Sock

Regular price $32.00

This colorway was inspired by Penelope, the wife of Odysseus who has finally agreed to marry one of her many suitors as soon as she has finished making her father-in-law's burial cloth, but she weaves the cloth by day and unweaves it by night, still hoping against hope that her beloved husband will return. Her colors include gold and copper for wisdom, pink for femininity, red for strength, blue for loyalty, blue-green for hope, and purple for royalty.

I originally made Penelope as part of my Odyssey collection in the summer of 2018. It goes beautifully with Odyssues and Telemachus.

The second-to-last photo shows a skein that I re-skeined to neaten it up. You can see how the colors will work up together.

Each skein of yarn is spun or dyed by me with loving care and contains a label with the yarn facts shown above. Your yarn is wrapped in tissue paper and shipped promptly, making a great presentation if you are giving it as a gift to your favorite fiber artist--even if that happens to be you!
Unless otherwise specified, your yarn will come as a hank, which is basically a large loop. This is the best way to store yarn because there’s no tension being placed on it. Before you begin to use it, however, you will need to wind it into a ball or cake or you will end up with a tangled mess. The best way to do this is with a swift and ball winder. However, you can use the arms of a patient friend or just put your yarn over two dining chairs back to back and wind it into a ball by hand. If you don’t have a swift and you plan to use the yarn fairly soon, I would be happy to wind your yarn into a cake for you at no extra charge. Just mention it in your note to seller when you check out.
As a token of my appreciation, I would be happy to include your choice of either a sprig of fresh rosemary from my organic garden or a handmade felt ball infused with essential lavender oil with your order.  Both of these smell wonderful and are natural moth deterrents. Just let me know if you would like one and which one you would prefer in the note to seller when you check out.

Please take a moment to sign up for my weekly newsletter. I have a monthly interview with a pattern designer, tutorials, news, and (best of all) secret sales for subscribers only. You will receive a coupon for 15% off your first or next order by email as soon as you do.

Happy fiber artistry!
