This listing is for 2 ounces of gold white mulberry silk top. I love using this in my art batts and also spinning it on its own. It would be a great addition to rolags too.
Mulberry silk is also known as Bombyx silk or cultivated silk. It is made by silkworms that eat only mulberry leaves, which makes a much finer silk than tussah silk. Mulberry silk has a micron count between 10 and 13.
It comes as top that is about 1" thick, so more like pencil roving than the 3" or 4" top one typically finds for wool. It is incredibly soft and lustrous.
If you plan to spin it by itself, it's good to have some experience as a spinner first. It has a very long staple length of something like 6 inches, which makes it easier to spin. However, it is also a bit slippery. If you blend it with wool, it's easier to spin and goes a very long way.

MY GIFT TO YOU
Also, as a token of my appreciation, I would be happy to include your choice of either a sprig of fresh rosemary from my organic garden or a handmade felt ball infused with essential lavender oil with your order. Both of these smell wonderful and are natural moth deterrents. Just let me know if you would like one and which one you would prefer in the note to seller when you check out.
Please take a moment to sign up for my weekly newsletter if you haven't already. You'll receive a one-time 15% discount when you do as well as news about Purple Lamb, a monthly designer of the month interview, and news about each sale.
Happy fiber artistry!
