MITHRIL Handdyed Yarn on Silken Cloud Worsted-Weight Yarn

Regular price $25.00

Mithril is a silvery gray yarn inspired by the mithril shirt that saved Frodo's life in The Fellowship of the Ring. Gandalf said it was made worth more than the whole shire together.

This is a tonal yarn ranging from very light silver to a medium gray.

I dyed this on Silken Cloud Worsted, which I have as a limited edition. These are really big skeins of yarn made of 4.4 ounces with 275 yards each. They are made of 50% fine alpaca, 30% merino, and 20% silk. The alpaca gives the yarn a slight halo while the silk gives it a lovely sheen.

These are not superwash and should be washed by hand.

The yarn is priced per skein.

The last photo shows a grouping of yarn I call Fade to Gray. It's made of Teal, North Wind, and this Mithril yarn, all dyed on Silken Cloud Worsted. I think these three would make a great sweater together.

Each skein of yarn is spun or dyed by me with loving care and contains a label with the yarn facts shown above. Your yarn is wrapped in tissue paper and shipped promptly, making a great presentation if you are giving it as a gift to your favorite fiber artist--even if that happens to be you!

Unless otherwise specified, your yarn will come as a hank, which is basically a large loop. This is the best way to store yarn because there’s no tension being placed on it. Before you begin to use it, however, you will need to wind it into a ball or cake or you will end up with a tangled mess. The best way to do this is with a swift and ball winder. However, you can use the arms of a patient friend or just put your yarn over two dining chairs back to back and wind it into a ball by hand. If you don’t have a swift and you plan to use the yarn fairly soon, I would be happy to wind your yarn into a cake for you at no extra charge. Just mention it in your note to seller when you check out.

As a token of my appreciation, I would be happy to include your choice of either a sprig of fresh rosemary from my organic garden or a handmade felt ball infused with essential lavender oil with your order.  Both of these smell wonderful and are natural moth deterrents. Just let me know if you would like one and which one you would prefer in the note to seller when you check out.
