KINGFISHER Indie-Dyed Variegated Sparkly Merino Sock Yarn

Regular price $26.00

Kingfisher was inspired by both the beautiful bird and the poem "As Kingfishers Catch Fire" by Hopkins. I thought about naming it after the title of the poem, but I thought it might horrify someone without the context. ;-)

I love the soft colors of this yarn with the bright orange acting as a counterpoint. It has persimmon orange, turquoise, a light teal green, a touch of black for the bird's beak, and ivory. I speckled the whole thing with blue, which shows up very well on the ivory, giving the ivory section a hint of very light blue from a distance.

Most of the pictures show the yarn the way it was right after I dyed, washed, and dried it, but the middle skein in a couple photos show what it looks like reskeined to give you a better idea of how it will look worked up.

Each skein of yarn is spun or dyed by me with loving care and contains a label with the yarn facts shown above. Your yarn is wrapped in tissue paper and shipped promptly, making a great presentation if you are giving it as a gift to your favorite fiber artist--even if that happens to be you!
Unless otherwise specified, your yarn will come as a hank, which is basically a large loop. This is the best way to store yarn because there’s no tension being placed on it. Before you begin to use it, however, you will need to wind it into a ball or cake or you will end up with a tangled mess. The best way to do this is with a swift and ball winder. However, you can use the arms of a patient friend or just put your yarn over two dining chairs back to back and wind it into a ball by hand. If you don’t have a swift and you plan to use the yarn fairly soon, I would be happy to wind your yarn into a cake for you at no extra charge. Just mention it in your note to seller when you check out.
As a token of my appreciation, I would be happy to include your choice of either a sprig of fresh rosemary from my organic garden or a handmade felt ball infused with essential lavender oil with your order.  Both of these smell wonderful and are natural moth deterrents. Just let me know if you would like one and which one you would prefer in the note to seller when you check out.
Happy fiber artistry!
