Butterfly Collection - BLUE MORPHO BUTTERFLY Hand-Dyed Yarn on Stained Glass Sock

When I first started using the Stained Glass Sock yarn base, I loved the idea of creating a collection of butterfly colorways using it, and I've finally done it!

I used the Blue Morpho butterfly as the inspiration for this colorway. I included a photo of this beautiful butterfly with brilliant blue wings surrounded by black. I dyed this one as a splashed and speckled colorway with the light blue splashed with darker blues and a touch of lavender.

I dyed it on Stained Glass Sock, which is a soft and squishy 2-ply yarn made of 80% superwash merino and 20% nylon. The thing that makes Stained Glass Sock uniquely wonderful is that one ply is made of white wool while the other alternates between black and white, so when I dye the yarn, it looks like leaded stained glass--or in this case the black lines in butterflies' wings. Each 100 gram skein has 400 yards.
