This colorway was inspired by Sara Crewe, the main character in the wonderful children's classic, A Little Princess. In spite of her own deep sorrow and hardship, she manages to bring joy to those around her. This colorway is dedicated to all who have managed to do the same in spite of--or perhaps in light of--their own sorrow.
It contains several shades of moody blues and mournful violets as well as some more cheerful burgundy rose.
I dyed it on a blend made of 70% Shetland and 30% Tussah Silk. Shetland wool is a great wool for beginners because it has a longer staple length. It has wonderful springiness too. With an average micron count of about 25, it is still fairly soft. The other 30% is made of Tussah Silk to add some additional softness.
If you would like a spindle to go with your hand-dyed top, you can find one in the Tools and Equipment section of my shop.
