I am so very excited to bring you this year's yarn Advent calendar!
This year, I will be creating colorways based on The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. Specifically, we will be following Frodo and Sam throughout their journey, and each colorway will be based on a place along the way beginning with the party at Bag End and ending at The Grey Havens. In case you are as much of a LOTR nerd as I am, I'll also mention that the visit with Tom Bombadil--who so frequently gets left out of every adaptation--will be a part of this set!
The colorways will be quite different from past years. I don't want to give away too much of the surprise, but they will be deep, rich earth tones, and most will be completely new colorways created just for the Advent calendar. Most of the colorways will be variegated, and they are intended to work as a cohesive set.
I'll be using Silken Sock mini skeins, which are made of 80% superwash merino and 20% mulberry silk. This is a 2-ply yarn that's really lovely and soft. Your kit will include 24 individually wrapped 20 gram sock-weight mini skeins. Each mini skein has 80 yards, so the whole set will include 1920 yards.
Each mini skein will be packaged in a small numbered and named box, and the idea is to open one box every day starting on December 1st and ending on Christmas Eve. I'll also be including a small gift for Christmas Day.
Your kit will also include a knitting pattern by Ambah O'Brien called the Radvent Wrap. It's a unique shawl that is knit from the center out, which I thought would fit so well with the journey theme of this kit. You will receive a paper copy of the pattern as well as a code to download it from Ravelry and store it in your library there.
Of course if you prefer to crochet or weave with your kit, you certainly can. There are lots of wonderful crochet patterns for Advent kits, and this kit would be enough to weave a wonderful shawl.
This is a preorder. I will be dyeing the yarn and packaging it in time to ship these Advent calendars by early November. I will only be shipping these to Canada and within The United States this year.
I would be grateful if you would order your Advent Calendar all by itself. The box is quite full with just the kit, so please order other items separately.
Ordinarily, I am happy to cake your yarn for you. Unfortunately, I won't be able to do it for the Yarn Advent Calendar kits due to time constraints.
Since I know that some of you send these as gifts for your favorite fiber artist, I will not be including pricing information in the Advent calendar packages this year.
