When I first started using the Stained Glass Sock yarn base, I loved the idea of creating a collection of butterfly colorways using it, and I've finally done it!

I used the Colorado Hairstreak Butterfly as the inspiration for this colorway. It may have a strange name, but it is certainly a beautiful creature. I included a photo of this beautiful butterfly, which I dyed with assigned pooling in mind. I dyed the orange as 1/4 of the whole skein, so that would make a great accent color for one of Dawn Barker's fabulous assigned pooling patterns.

I dyed it on Stained Glass Sock, which is a soft and squishy 2-ply yarn made of 80% superwash merino and 20% nylon. The thing that makes Stained Glass Sock uniquely wonderful is that one ply is made of white wool while the other alternates between black and white, so when I dye the yarn, it looks like leaded stained glass--or in this case the black lines in butterflies' wings. Each 100 gram skein has 400 yards.
